Platinum Jubilee 2022 – CCBC planned activities
Beacon lighting ceremony
This is the formal activity requested by the Palace to take place nationwide on 2nd June.
Three proposed locations within the CCBC area are:
- Penallta House roof
- Twmbarlwm
- Bedwellty Church
Street Parties / Big Jubilee lunch
- The council’s Event Safety Advisory Group will process all applications for associated community events and road closures

Queen’s Green Canopy
- National appeal to plant trees as part of Jubilee celebrations
- Local Authorities encouraged to identify sites and add details to an online map
- CCBC has identified Grove Park (Blackwood) as a key site where planting will take place along a new pathway.
Jubilee Bench
- Site identified at Morgan Jones Park, Caerphilly
- Unveiling ceremony and associated publicity once installed
Intergenerational storytelling project
- Creating and capturing intergenerational conversations between residents about life in Caerphilly over the past 70 years.
- Working with armed forces organisations, NHS, Gwent councils, Head for Arts, Caerphilly Miners’ Centre, Castle Court Shopping Centre and the Interfaith Council of Wales on a range of projects to encourage these conversations within the local community
- An exhibition which will then be shared in CCBC community locations and on the Gwent-wide project website
CCBC facilities – events and activities
- Exhibitions and displays encouraged at council run venues – eg Libraries, schools, community centres
- Community-led celebrations encouraged in local high streets etc
